DUSTY

Dusty Scumpet — the official Plastikcomb Magazine Mascot and the first mascot ever created for a magazine – probably.

For the first issue of Plastikcomb Magazine, {ths} decided to create a mascot, even though no one had asked for one. After all, what magazine can claim to have a mascot—and why would it even want one? Exactly.

Dusty Scumpet's design is loosely based on the 1950s, an era when every toothpaste, motor oil, and probably every duster had its own cheerfully grinning advertising character.

Dusty quickly appeared in every conceivable form: sometimes with a comb, sometimes without; sometimes pixelated; sometimes as a pin; and sometimes as a vinyl figure (the latter of which is, unfortunately, strictly limited to zero pieces). Nevertheless, we are convinced that no other magazine needs a mascot. But PCM has one. That makes us special and a little legendary.
