Plastikcomb Issue 1 titled *A Beautiful Mess*, debuted in November 2020 as a bold, biannual art publication that defies conventional magazine norms. Founded by self-taught artists Aaron L. Beebe and Thomas Schostok, the magazine emerged from a transatlantic collaboration conducted entirely through emails and texts, without a single phone call. Designed as a tribute to the chaotic editorial styles of 1990s publications like Ray Gun and Speak, PCM merges collage, typography, and fine art into a cohesive visual experience. Each layout is uniquely tailored to the featured artist, transforming every page into a standalone piece of art. The inaugural issue spans 132 pages and includes interviews, artwork, and the introduction of “Dusty” the magazine’s mascot, symbolizing its ethos of embracing analog creativity in a digital age. Plastikcomb’s innovative approach has garnered recognition, being named one of the top 10 self-published magazines in 2021 by Adobe and PAGE Magazine.
